What is your hardest role to fill right now?

We asked these experts in outdoor, lifestyle and natural grocery for their current hiring challenge:

Patagonia – Deanna Lloyd, Recruiting Director
“It is a little tricky, as each role has its own complexity. Certainly our more technical roles, whether they are product related or process related, can be tricky. Finding the right skill set (which can be very specific) and then ensuring we have the right cultural fit can be a challenge. This is one of the reasons we are willing to take our time with our hiring process because we never want to compromise on fit.”

Allbirds – Jessica Barhydt, People Operations Manager
“Our most difficult role to fill at the moment is a Staff Front End Engineer role. We’re looking for someone with a unique combination of refined design aesthetic and technical ability – someone who can collaborate with our design team, operate at high level of technical expertise and mentor a team!”

New Seasons Market – Dana Pratt, Director of Staffing and Development
“Store operations and merchandising are positions that drive our business. In our stores, the most difficult positions to hire for are leaders in our prepared foods departments (Deli, Bakery, Meat & Seafood). These businesses are fast-paced and require leadership, experience managing large teams, financial acumen and a deep love of food.

Here in the offices, the most difficult positions to hire for are leaders in our merchandising areas – Category and Program Managers. We require a background in grocery buying, and we have few west coast competitors with similar requirements. Perishable areas (Prepared Foods, Bakery, Cheese, Meat & Seafood) are particularly difficult but finding talent in all areas of grocery category management is a challenge.”
